There is Freedom Working from Home

It has been a long time since I have worked for anyone else, and working from home has been wonderful. There is definitely something wonderful about setting your hours and being your own boss.

Sometimes I struggle to get everything done, since no one is looking over my shoulder making sure I get everything done. Today is a great example of some of the work that I have been doing. You see, I am selecting some Yukon stock photoss for a book project that I am working on. Though there are a number of nice pictures that I get to see, I sure get sick of all these elevator pictures that I have been looking at.

The work would be a lot more tedious if it wasn’t for my IBM notebook. It has allowed me the freedom to get the work done without being tethered to a desk. I love the fact that I can go work outside if it is nice out. Or I can go out for lunch and work at the same time. In fact, if I wanted to, I could work from a different location each and every day. This freedom is something that I sure wouldnt trade for anything.

It hasn’t always been like this. I had to put in years in the corporate world, working long hours and neglecting my family to get to this point. The worst part was that my family life suffered because of my work, and to this day my children still haven’t forgiven me. It was those years of sacrifice that paved the way for me to work on my own today.

It is nice to wakeup to a job that is different each and every day. For example, I might be picking out pictures for a client one day, and then working on doing some bookeeping the next. This variety is wonderful. Heaven forbid that work should be boring.

I don’t think that I will ever quit cold turkey when I retire. I mean, if I can have an income without having to work fulltime and yet I can still make a good income to do the things I love, why would I quit? I know many people my age retire, then go and find another part time job at a lower wage that just doesnt make sense. I could never be that kind of person.

So, I should get back to work and pick out these pictures. Since it is such a nice day, maybe I can take the afternoon off. Having the freedom to choose my own hours rocks!
